The Kremlin currently sees no prospect of improving Russia-U.S. relations irrespective of the outcome of the U.S. midterm elections, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.
“We think that we should not be deceived and suppose that this will bring some clarity … So far, there are no definite trends towards normalizing relations,” Peskov told a daily briefing.
He said that Russian President Vladimir Putin may talk briefly with U.S. President Donald Trump later this week in Paris, and a full-fledged summit may take place in Buenos Aires on the sidelines of the G20 meeting on Nov. 30-Dec. 1.
“They are guaranteed to end up together at the G20 in Argentina,” he said, adding that the two may discuss the prospect of a meeting in Paris, where world leaders will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War on Nov. 11.
On Monday, Trump told reporters he was unsure a Paris meeting with Putin was in the cards, but did say they would be meeting at the G20 gathering and probably have several meetings afterward.
