Iran says humanitarian aid immediate need of besieged Syrians

TEHRAN,  (Xinhua) — An Iranian Foreign Ministry official said Saturday that the United Nations should dispatch immediate humanitarian aid to the crisis-hit people in Syria, Press TV reported.

The United Nations should also adopt strategies to effectively fight terrorism and prepare the ground for the Syrians to determine their own future, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Jaberi Ansari said following a meeting with the visiting Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura.

Jaberi Ansari described his talks with de Mistura on the latest humanitarian situation in Syria and international efforts to help solve Syrian crisis as “good and serious.”

He expressed hope that the recent regional and international developments would lay the ground for the United Nations to take more effective measures to restore security and peace to Syria through dialogue.

The UN envoy arrived in Tehran on Saturday at the invitation of Jaberi Ansari to discuss the ongoing conflict in Syria.
