Member States named Ambassador Ahmet Altay Cengizer, Permanent Delegate of Turkey to UNESCO, as President of the 40th session of the General Conference to be held in Paris on Nov. 12-27, 2019.

The President of the General Conference, together with the post of Director-General and Chairmanship of the Executive Board, is one of the top three UNESCO assignments and ranks at the top of the protocol.

“The 40th General Conference will be one of the most important gatherings in the history of UNESCO,” Cengizer told the 40th session of the UNESCO General Conference in Paris.

Ambassador Cengizer has been representing Turkey in the Executive Board of the UNESCO for the 2017-2021 period.

“My door will be open to each and everyone of you. I will remain accessible in the rooms and approachable in the corridors,” he added.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) General Conference held biennially is the organization’s highest decision-making body.

During the 39th session of the General Conference of UNESCO in 2017, Turkey was elected as an executive board member.

The UNESCO’s executive board consists of 58 member countries, who are elected for a four-year mandate, during which they discuss and negotiate key decisions.
