Did India Make a mistake in Creating Bangladesh?

“We made a mistake in creating Bangladesh”, said to me an Indian expert and BJP adviser few years ago at The London School Economics. Although the Indian fundamentalist BJP and Congress leaders celebrate the disintegration of Pakistan with the help of international players like the USA and former USSR. When I asked the Indian expert that: ’Do you think it was wise to further 2nd time divide India in less than 25 years after 1947 division and creation of Pakistan and India.? Do you think it is going to stop here and no more countries will come out of India?

On the issue of India’s hostile relations with all its neighbours I asked H.E Renandra Sen High Commissioner of India to United Kingdom few years ago in a fully packed London School of Economics hall after his lecture on ‘India as emerging power’.

“Your excellency, which country Indian has best relationship, three wars with Pakistan, border dispute with Bangladesh, hostile towards Bhutan and Nepal one war and border dispute with China which country India has best relationship apart from Mauritius?

The Indian High Commissioner to United Kingdom replied: “it is not a fair question”.

I reassured him later that it was not meant to undermine his lecture. The current trip of the Indian PM to China is significant and reflection of China’s policy of having good relations with its neighbours. One senior Chinese journalist told me few days ago that ‘Pakistan and China are all weathers friends and engagement of people is necessary’.

I told an Indian expert in London that, ‘after your role in 1971, Bangladesh creation and division of Pakistan: “some deep assessments might have already been done in some capitals as how many more countries can come out of India”.

You started this and we will finish it with your help off course because instead of adopting a damage control and friendly policy towards Pakistan after bloody division in 1947, Indian leadership become more and more hostile towards Pakistan which obviously lead to Pakistan becoming a nuclear capable state with long- and short-range missiles to deliver it’. So much so Pakistani scientists have successfully reduced the size of nuclear device to the size of football’.

After 26/11 Mumbai terrorist attacks I told the famous Indian expert based in a prestigious think tank in London: “the threshold of Pakistanis nuking (you) India is low so don’t do anything stupid adventure towards Pakistan”. Indian government at the time so over confident due to their assets in power in Pakistan that, ‘they were preparing for the surgical strike’. Pakistani Prime Minister under the instructions of President Asif Zardari was even ready to send Pakistani ISI chief Gen. Shuja Pasha, to India to help in investigations of Mumbai Attacks’.

However, US General visiting GHQ in Pakistan was almost shocked when he was presented with the ‘missile locked photos of Indian Air force fighter jets who crossed into Pakistani territory’ and received by the Pakistan Air Force jets. US General was told, ‘we will shoot them next time’. The rumour was that: ‘Zaradari regime had agreed to allow a surgical strike inside Pakistan and probably General was checking the pulse’. To undermine the armed forces of Pakistan following the original script of Benazir Bhutto ‘Pakistan army can be sandwiched and stretched from both sides with the help of US in Afghanistan and India on the other side.

However, Obama administration seems to have helped Pakistan Armed Forces by ‘Memo Leaks’ published in the Financial Times and Mansoor Ijaz gave his evidence from London. There were communications ‘how to undermine the Pakistan Army’ between Mansoor Ijaz and Pakistani Ambassador Hussain Haqqani, whose wife Farah Isphani (MNA) was living in President House with Asif Zardari as special adviser. It is well known fact that Gen Pasha himself flew to London to get the evidence ‘Blackberry’ sets and interview Mansoor Ijaz’. Hussain Haqqani is working as an Indian lobbyist reportedly in USA.

The challenges for the current Imran Khan lead Government in Pakistan are economy and cleansing of dual nationals ‘foreign assets’ in the bureaucracy and so-called corrupt business elite. As the US supreme court allowed for ‘special measures in special circumstances’, cases of corruption should also be sent to special military courts.
